It did not  take long for the highly rated Rory Hie to make an impression in the  professional ranks, the youngster winning his first title just months after  waving goodbye to his amateur status.

Fittingly  enough, the 20-year-old’s breakthrough win came on home soil in The  International Championship played at Jakarta’s Imperial Klub Golf in October of  2008.

Hie, who  emigrated with his parents to America when aged five, showcased his talents to  local fans with a 10-under-par total of 278 in the Mercedes-Benz Tour event.

While in the  United States, Hie studied at the University of California and had success on  the college golf scene, rising to number one on the Golf Week Junior ranking,  before turning pro. At one point he was also ranked the sixth best amateur in  the world.
