After a period in the golfing wilderness, veteran Felix Casas bounced back to prominence with victory in the 2008 B-ing Championship at Pattana Golf and Sports Resort in Thailand.
He turned back the clock with a closing 65 to edge highly rated Thai teenager Kiradech Aphibarnrat by two strokes in the Mercedes-Benz Tour event.
Early on in his career, the likable Casas was frequently referred to as “the next Frankie Minoza” and his talent shone through during several outstanding performances, notably a second place finish to Australia’s Steve Elkington in Phuket in 1996.
His win in the 2001 Philippine Open should have signposted the way ahead but Casas endured a tough year on tour in 2002 finishing a lowly 122nd on the Order of Merit and he never fully recovered from that body blow until his win in 2008.
